Change in equity stake of NOVATEK shareholder

Moscow, 6 October 2008. OAO NOVATEK today announced a change in the shareholding structure of a shareholder holding not less than five percent of the Company’s ordinary shares.

On 3 October 2008 NOVATEK was notified by Volga Resources SICAV SIF S.A. («Volga Resources») that as of 1 October 2008 its wholly-owned subsidiary White Seal Holdings Limited, Cyprus, had increased its equity stake in NOVATEK to 153,941,800 shares, or 5.07% of NOVATEK’s equity. The equity share consists of 3.848% of ordinary shares and 1.222% of global depositary receipts.
