NOVATEK’s Board of Directors Approves Human Rights Policy

Moscow, 17 December 2021. The Board of Directors of PAO NOVATEK (“NOVATEK” and/or the “Company”) has approved the Company’s Human Rights Policy (the “Policy”).

The Policy formalizes the Company’s position on human rights and incorporates all the fundamental principles, including respect for human dignity, providing safe working conditions, non-discrimination, as well as respect for the rights, distinctive culture, and customs of local communities, including indigenous minorities.

“Lives and health of our employees are an absolute value for us. Since its foundation, NOVATEK has followed the most advanced practices, respecting the rights of all stakeholders and doing business in full compliance with universal standards set out, inter alia, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Global Compact”, noted Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of NOVATEK's Management Board. “In line with the principles of openness and transparency, the Company has been regularly publishing the information on respect for human rights in its Sustainability Reports since 2004.”

PAO NOVATEK is one of the largest independent natural gas producers in Russia, and in 2017, entered the global LNG market by successfully launching the Yamal LNG project. Founded in 1994, the Company is engaged in the exploration, production, processing and marketing of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Upstream activities of the Company’s subsidiaries and joint ventures are concentrated mainly in the prolific Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, which is the world’s largest natural gas producing area and accounts for approximately 80% of Russia’s natural gas production and approximately 15% of the world’s gas production.
