NOVATEK performs routine maintenance at core fields

Moscow, 26 August 2009. OAO NOVATEK (“NOVATEK” and/or the “Company”) announced today that it is carrying out planned routine maintenance and inspection of equipment and facilities at two of its core fields, East-Tarkosalinskoye and Khancheyskoye. The Company also carried out additional work to improve the East-Tarkosalinskoye field’s internal gas pipeline network, to prevent future production stoppages, and general maintenance on the Khancheyskoye field’s separation equipment. As a result of the planned work NOVATEK has temporarily suspended production from the Khancheyskoye field for two days and the East-Tarkosalinskoye field for four days and expects them to return to full operation on the 26 and 28 of August, respectively.

NOVATEK was able to increase production volumes from these fields prior to, and also after, the maintenance work based on an agreement with Gazprom for increased deliveries to the Unified Gas Supply System and expects overall production volumes in August 2009 to be in line with production volumes in July 2009.
